SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 28, 2019) – The MLK, Jr. Commission is excited to announce the 5th Annual Citywide Art Contest for Official Artwork. The selected artwork will be used as the visual representation of the 2020 commemoration theme, which is: “Dream. Believe. Unite. Do.” The final artwork selected will also be used for promotional materials for the 2020 Commemoration. The 2020 March and Commemorative Program will take place on Monday, January 20, 2020. Deadline for submissions is Friday, November 15, 2019 (4 p.m. Central Time).
Since 1987, the City of San Antonio has celebrated the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. with an annual series of events leading up to one of the largest marches in the country honoring Dr. King. The contest is open to Bexar County residents. Student artists are especially encouraged to submit original artwork.
Contest is open to current Bexar County residents, student artists are especially encouraged to participate. Artwork must be a visual representation of the 2020 Commemorative Theme: “Dream. Believe. Unite. Do.” Any traditional two-dimensional artistic media (painting, watercolor, photography, computer graphics, color pencil, etc.) are acceptable. All submissions must be original artwork created by the submitter, and not used in any other promotional or event materials. One individual artist per entry (no collaborations or group works, please). Artist should not sign artwork or identify him/herself on the art piece.
· Each submission must be accompanied with the following information secured to the back of the artwork:
· Artist Name
· Contact Information (phone number, email address and home address)
· Title of Artwork
· Art Media Used (i.e. watercolor, computer graphics, color pencil, etc.)
· Each submission must have a printed and signed copy of these guidelines agreeing to the terms and conditions of the contest. You can view the guidelines here.
The image and likeness of Martin Luther King, Jr. are copyright-protected and should not be included in the submitted artwork. A panel of judges, to include representatives from the San Antonio MLK, Jr. Commission and various members of the community, will make the final decision based on concept, artistic imagery, visual presentation and originality.
Any submissions not meeting any of the above-mentioned guidelines may be disqualified. The City of San Antonio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission is not responsible for lost or damaged entries. The City of San Antonio Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission will retain ownership and full copyright of the winning artwork and its reproductions. Any use or adaptation of the artwork is within the sole discretion of the MLK, Jr. Commission.

Organizers will notify the winning individual and the San Antonio MLK, Jr. Commission will make a public announcement.
