Mano Factura: Arte Regio opens at Travis Park
SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 13, 2015)
– Thirty life-size sculptures from San Antonio’s sister city Monterrey, Mexico were celebrated Saturday, Jan. 10 in Travis Park. Mano Factura: Arte Regio comes to San Antonio through collaboration between the City’s Department for Culture & Creative Development, Center City Development & Operations Department and International Relations Office. The exhibit gives San Antonio residents the opportunity to embrace the art and culture that Monterrey has to offer.
Saturday’s opening ceremony was attended by officials from the Mexican Consulate, Mexican Cultural Institute and the City of San Antonio. Acting Consul General Jose Antonio Larios spoke on behalf of the Mexican federal government and was joined by Monterrey Councilman Ignacio de Leon, District 1 City Councilman Roberto C. Treviño and Felix Padrón, director of the Department for Culture & Creative Development.
“This exhibit gives our community the opportunity to experience art from artists of different geographical backgrounds in the center of downtown,” said Padrón. “These cultural connections help strengthen the bond between two cities and open the door for more collaboration.”
Each sculpture depicts a hand giving the peace sign and is uniquely embellished by a diverse range of artists from Mexico and other countries. The sculptures travelled 300 miles from their home of Monterrey and will be on display for the community to enjoy until March 5 in Travis Park.
