Holiday Arts

holiday lights

San Antonio is a magical place over the holidays. With dazzling lights on the River Walk, around downtown and all over the city, it is a time to be inspired by the festive environment plus amazing cultural and artistic events happening. These are just some of the many happenings to enjoy. Click here for a full list of holiday events. Start planning your holiday must-do list now!

Celebrations & Traditions

From the tradition of tamale making (and eating) to fireworks in the middle of downtown, we like to celebrate the holiday season. Some don’t miss events include La Gran Tamalada at Market Square and Celebrate SA! New Year Eve’s Celebration in Hemisfair park.

Live Performances

This is the season to enjoy live performances and music all around. The San Antonio Symphony will be performing Holiday Pops. Or if you are a fan of The Nutcracker, take in a performance of the ballet by the Quenedit Dance Theatre. Also, don’t miss the Institute of Texan Cultures’ classic holiday performances including scenes from the Nutcracker and a traditional Mexican Pastorela play.

Kids will love Tiny Tim's Christmas Carol and A Charlie Brown Christmas at the Magik Theatre, performances by Children’s Chorus of San Antonio called Making Spirits Bright at The Tobin Center for Performing Arts and Elf The Musical at the Public Theater of San Antonio.

Unique Shopping Opportunities

Finding the perfect gift won’t be a problem. At the Holiday Craft Fair at Inspire! Community Art Center you can savor international foods while browsing a selection of local vendors. Find handmade treasures at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center's Hecho a Mano or the Holiday Artesian Show on the River Walk.

Plus, make sure to stop by local museum shops such as The DoSeum, Southwest School of Art, San Antonio Museum of Art and The Witte, just to name a few. Put La Villita Historic Arts Village and Historic Market Square on your shopping list too. Not only can you find a great gift, you can also get loads on Instagram worthy pics of the family.
