Description: To provide administrative, fundraising and research expertise to a startup African American digital archive and museum. Perform other tasks as directed by the SAAACAM President and Board Chair, Mrs. La Juana Chambers Lawson, with minimal supervision. Adhere to the SAAACAM Volunteer Guidelines, Organizational Bylaws, Financial Policies and Procedures, Confidentiality Statement, Code of Ethics and other organization specific policies. Meet all deliverable deadlines and demonstrate good judgment, discretion and commitment to accuracy and details. Familiarity with African American cultural heritage, curation, fundraising, project management and non-profit management highly preferred.
Responsibilities: Specialize in African American culture, heritage and placemaking. Raise funds to cover the cost of museum, digital archive and collection maintenance. Seek support from the community by actively creating opportunities in the form of volunteerism, internship and on-the-job training to support all aspects of SAAACAM programming, Board initiatives and events. Supervise all aspects of digital archive and museum - collections, loans, programming. Oversee all administration and management of interns and/or staff with direction from the President. Establish quarterly meetings with each committee of the Board of Directors with the President in order to collaborate on grant writing, development and fundraising initiatives in a coordinated manner. Report to the Board monthly at regularly scheduled meetings of the Board on all matters related to the administration, operations and management of the organization. Become familiar with the SAAACAM organizational chart and ensure adherence to the chain of command and work flow of communication. Oversee and directly implement a digital archive for SAAACAM internal and external stakeholders to access easily and securely via SAAACAM.org. Actively pursue digital archive and museum designations and distinctions in order to ensure that SAAACAM is and will continue to be a trusted community resource. To act as a principal fact finder and history buff that is both knowledgeable about African culture and history, especially as it relates to that of San Antonio. Establishes and cultivates relationships/partnerships with academic, municipal and other community stakeholders to advance the mission of SAAACAM.
Qualifications: Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience with a digital archive and/or museum - Outstanding communication skills in multiple environments and with a range of audiences - Excellent planning, time management, and decision-making skills. Working knowledge of spreadsheet, database, email, calendar/scheduling and word processing software - Passion for SAAACAM mission, vision and goals with the ability to comprehend and effectively communicate issues surrounding conservation, oral history, archiving and museums Preferred Qualifications - Master’s degree in a related discipline - Non-profit administration and management experience - Experience working with a Board of Directors and/or implementing a strategic plan - Connections to the local community, to include digital archive(s) and/or museum(s) The Director will model the organization’s culture of openness and inclusivity in all interactions, and is an empathetic leader, treating others with respect. An individual of integrity, ethics and values, this leader inspires unquestioned trust. A successful candidate is an accomplished leader with a background in museums or similar institutions, with demonstrated success in establishing and achieving strategic and mission-related objectives. Significant experience in administrative leadership, including exhibitions, programming, fundraising, human resources management, and financial oversight is critical. Keen business acumen, curatorial judgment, and the ability to be strategic with donors and key partners are essential to success in the position.

Compensation or Award: Salary: $35.00 to $50.00 /hour
