Understanding that art speaks a universal language, the Department of Arts & Culture is integral to the City of San Antonio’s global positioning. It sponsors cultural events such as Diwali, India Festival, Chinese New Year events that showcase the wide cultural diversity of our city. Cultural exchange programs with our sister cities will further the vision of making San Antonio a world-class creative hub.
The Cultural Corridors concept envisions a San Antonio of mixed-use, livable, walkable neighborhoods linked to downtown and and culturally important sites along the way.
Various projects aim to make that vision a reality: the Westside Cultural Development Corporation, the MLK Drive Cultural Corridor, the Museum Reach and Mission Reach of the San Antonio River. The Broadway Reach arm of the Cultural Corridor project encompasses the San Antonio Children’s Museum, San Antonio Museum of Art, The Witte Museum, Brackenridge Park Conservancy, San Antonio Zoo, San Antonio Botanical Garden and McNay Art Museum. The Westside Cultural Corridor, La Zona Cultural, focuses on enhancing cultural activity between West Commerce and Laredo, spearheaded by the Westside Development Corporation.
